Decolonizing Yoga & Somatics Community Building Workshop

An introduction to Trauma Informed and Cultural Care in Yoga and Healing Spaces

for Educators, Healers, Therapists, Activists, Meditation, Movement and Yoga Teachers with Hala Khouri and Susanna Barkataki!

What:

Join us for a day of building community and a transformative workshop that blends yoga and somatics as a practice of decolonization. Experience the wisdom of somatics, trauma-informed care, and cultural humility to reshape yourself and healing spaces.

We start the day with an informal lunch together at the Culver City Farmer’s Market. Then, we workshop. You will gain a profound understanding of trauma-informed practices and how to apply them in their healing and teaching work. You will learn to integrate cultural humility into your approach, ensuring that your spaces are inclusive and respectful of all backgrounds. Through this workshop, participants will build beloved community and also develop practical tools for decolonizing your practices, enabling you to challenge and dismantle oppressive narratives within your environments. Additionally, you will leave with a stronger sense of connection to your own bodies and to the communities you serve, empowered to create spaces of true healing and transformation.

Why:

One of the legacies of colonization is shame and disembodiment. Colonization is about extraction, domination and trauma. Decolonization is about embodiment, belonging and dignity. Reclaiming our bodies and our innate natural healing capacities requires us to disrupt and shed old systems of power that we have internalized. During this experiential workshop Susanna and Hala will share practice and theory behind decolonizing yoga and somatic practices with the intention of supporting your own healing and equipping you with tools and a framework to support your work with others.

Who we are and who it’s for:

Led by a dynamic duo—Hala Khouri, therapist and somatics trainer, and Susanna Barkataki, Yoga therapist and expert in decolonizing yoga—this workshop is designed for educators, healers, therapists, activists, yoga and meditation practitioners and anyone who wants to be more embodied as they help the world. We welcome anyone in the helping professions who want to enhance their tools for supporting healing in others as well as folks wanting to deepen their personal relationship to their yoga and embodiment practice.
