The Yoga of Resistance: Facing Fascism with Courage, Power & Liberation

This event is part of the Ignite Your Yoga Book Tour celebrating the release of the book Ignite Your Yoga: How to Live, Practice, and Teach as an Authentic Yoga Steward by Susanna Barkataki.

In the face of rising fascism, repression, and fear, yoga offers more than personal healing—it is a radical path to collective resistance and liberation. Rooted in the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras, and Karma Yoga (the yoga of action), this workshop explores how yoga helps us stand strong, resist oppression, and transform fear into courageous, sustained action.

The state relies on fear and division to weaken movements, but yoga teaches another way—a way of clarity, strength, and fearless action. Using the F.I.R.E. Framework from Ignite Your YogaFoundation, Integrity, Relationships, and Embodiment—we’ll align yogic wisdom with Principles for Activists, offering embodied practices that fortify resistance, build resilience, and help us move through fear with steadiness and power.

What You’ll Experience Through the F.I.R.E. Framework

 Foundation: Strengthening Inner & Collective Grounding

  • Sangha as Collective Defense – Practicing Seva (selfless service) and Maitri (friendship) to strengthen community-based resistance.

  • Dharma & Political Resilience – Using Sankalpa (intention) and Dharma (right action) to unify movements and resist infiltration.

  • Tapas & Ahimsa in Action – Cultivating inner discipline and non-violent resistance through breathwork and movement.

Integrity: Aligning Values with Action

  • Ishvara Pranidhana & Truth-Telling – Surrendering to higher purpose while developing strategies for political resilience.

  • Karuna & Bhakti: Centering the Most Impacted – Practicing compassion and devotional service to support frontline communities.

  • Asteya & Svadhyaya for Movement Strength – Preventing division through self-study and resisting fear-based internal conflicts.

Relationships: Strengthening Collective Trust & Accountability

  • Viveka & Pranayama for Discernment – Using breathwork and discernment to navigate fear, paranoia, and political repression.

  • Sustaining Movements with Yogic Ethics – Applying Ahimsa (non-harm) and Satya (truth) to prevent burnout and strengthen leadership.

Embodiment: Practicing Courage, Resistance & Resilience

  • Warrior Practices for Strength & Steadiness – Standing asanas and breathwork to cultivate fearlessness in activism.

  • Shanti Shakti: Balancing Peace & Power – A movement ritual embodying both peace (Shanti) and power (Shakti) for sustainable resistance.

This workshop will leave you grounded, empowered, and equipped with yogic tools for action, resilience, and liberation in the fight for justice.
